SkyTour Radio Presents: Science By Accident
Sunday August 5th, 2018
First up on SkyTour Radio for August 5th we talk about Exoplanet CS Cha (constellation Chameleon in the Southern sky). This planet was discovered by Dutch astronomers quite by accident. The planet is actually either a brown dwarf, or a giant Jupiter and its still forming. In fact the star system itself is only 2-3 million years old. A veritable infant on the star system scale. But that isn’t the most interesting thing. What is even more astonishing is that astronomers found it… by accident. Astronomers were actually searching for circumstellar discs, or discs of dust, around stars. They found the disc…. And then a planet to go along for the ride for their troubles!
Then later we check out the world of science and look at some of the fortunate accidents that led to some of the most incredible breakthroughs in the modern world. From Corn Flakes to Xrays, some of the most incredible inventions and discoveries were found quite by accident. In our travels we will check out a few of those whacky and crazy things we cant live without… and learn about their hard to believe and accidental discoveries! Its all on the 8/5 show so join us on SkyTour Radio for Science by accident!
SkyTour Radio explores the Universe in a down to Earth manner explaining the science we know in fun and bite-sized terms. Science is for everyone and people shouldn’t require an advanced degree to understand as long as it is delivered in an easy to follow way. From Black Holes to Extraterrestrial Life, we will explore the Universe like never before. Join us to check out such things as how stars form, how they live and, how our fate is intertwined with theirs.
